Description

"Photograph shows Douglas College's ""Great Trek"". 60 years prior U.B.C. heralded its start with a ""Great Trek"". The parade began at the old campus of Douglas College at McBride and Eighth Avenue , wound up Seventh Avenue to Second Street to Royal Avenue and up Royal to the new campus where a beer garden was held. Staff, students, administrators were led by a marching band composed of Douglas College music students. Douglas College was to have started moving into its new location at 7th and Royal by last September with the official opening slated for mid-November. Due to labor difficulties the move was delayed until November, with the last students vacating by December.
